Lands End to Probus - Day 1 (21 May)

And they're off...

Made it to Lands End by 0900 - the official photographer delayed the start as he forgot the 0930 appointment and sauntered in at 0950 looking very unperturbed! In the meantime, despite the drizzly rain and gusty winds, the Six LEJOGers were in good spirits and keen to get on the road...

STARTED at 1010 and arrived at Zennor (15 miles) by 1120 after a short stop at Carn Galver tin mine along the way... Next stop Hayle (10 miles) at 1210 for a quick snack attack (literally - 10 bananas disappeared in 2 minutes flat!) while Frances purchased some flashy sunglasses in the vain hope that the sun would start to shine...

Next stop Portreath (8 miles) arrived at 1310 where (probably) the biggest pasties in the world had been prepared by Mandy and Lucy - delicious thank you!

Back on the road at 1420 feeling very full. Followed the Cornish Way Path (an old mine railway) to the next stop, Goonhaven (12 miles) where the support team had been loitering at a Garden Centre... Another snack attack (fast disappearing bananas, rice crispy cakes, mars bars and cereal bars etc) ready for the last leg of the day.

FINISHED at 1645 back at base near Probus having completed 57 miles and only 4 chains had come off along the way!

Average speed today: 12.3 mph
Total distance covered: 56.2 miles
Overall cycling time 4hrs 34 mins
Pete's pint of the day: Chalky's bark

Well done team - approximately 899 miles to go!
